What moves the price
- UnmanagedRs 1,500 – 8,000
- Plug in and it works. Right for a straightforward run of desks where nobody needs VLANs.
- PoERs 6,000 – 30,000
- Powers cameras and access points down the data cable. Check the total PoE watt budget, not just the port count.
- ManagedRs 12,000 – 60,000+
- VLANs, port visibility, link aggregation. Worth it once guest traffic, CCTV and office traffic need separating.
Common questions
- How do I size the PoE budget?
- Add up what every powered device draws — a typical dome camera is 4 to 8W, an access point 10 to 15W — and leave headroom. A 24-port switch with a 190W budget will not run 24 access points, and that is the mistake we see most often.
- Managed or unmanaged?
- Unmanaged until you need to separate traffic or see what a port is doing. The moment you have guest WiFi, CCTV and office machines on one network, managed pays for itself.
